[rede.APPIA] Call for algorithms: Competition IEEE PES GM, CEC and GECCO 2021 Evolutionary Computation in the Energy Domain: Smart Grid Applications – Prizes by IEEE CIS

*** sorry for multiple copies of this mail, please forward this message to potential participants***

*** update: competition included in IEEE PES GM 2021 activities ***

Dear Colleagues,

Following the success of the previous editions (CEC, GECCO, WCCI), we are launching a more challenging competition at major conferences in the field of computational intelligence. This IEEE PES GM 2021, IEEE CEC 2021 & GECCO 2021 competition proposes two tracks in the energy domain:

Track 1) Bi-level optimization of bidding strategies in local energy markets (LEM). This track is constructed under the same framework of the past competitions (therefore, former competitors can adapt their algorithms to this new track), representing a complex bi-level problem in which competitive agents in the upper-level try to maximize their profits, modifying and depending on the price determined in the lower-level problem (i.e., the clearing price in the LEM), thus resulting in a strong interdependence of their decisions.

Track 2) Flexibility management of home appliances to support DSO requests. A model for aggregators flexibility provision in distribution networks that takes advantage of load flexibility resources allowing the re-schedule of shifting/real-time home-appliances to provision a request from a distribution system operator (DSO) is proposed. The problem can be modeled as a Mixed-Integer Non-Linear Programming (MINLP) in which the aggregator strives to match a flexibility request from the DSO/BRP, paying remuneration to the households participating in the DR program according to their preferences and the modification of their baseline profile.

[rede.APPIA] DaSSWeb – Data Science and Statistics Webinar – 27 April – Jorge Silva

DaSSWeb – Data Science and Statistics Webinar
Tuesday, 27 April, 14:30
Speaker: Jorge Silva University of Porto
Title: Bibliometrics: studying the present to make the best decisions for the future
Zoom link: videoconf-colibri.zoom.us/j/83875914782
Abstract: For several years bibliometrics have been used to help researchers understanding science and aid with decision making processes that pave the way for future research (e.g. funding allocation). Due to the exponential growth in research in recent years, bibliometric tools have become even more important and there is an increasing necessity for these tools to couple with large scale databases. In this talk, I will focus on three bibliometrics problems: publication similarity, author profiling and author ranking. Publication similarity is the task of measuring how similar two publications are. Author profiling is the problem of categorizing the knowledge of researchers. Author ranking is the task of estimating the scientific impact of researchers. For each one of these problems I will discuss their applications, research challenges, current state of the art and present our line of work. In more detail, I will discuss how complex networks (structures that are widely used to model and study complex systems) offer a unique way to study relations and patterns in bibliographic data and how this information can be used to improve bibliometric studies in the three mentioned problems.
