Iberamia’2024, the 18th Ibero-American Conference on Artificial Intelligence, will be held in Montevideo (Uruguay) on November 13-15th, 2024, organized by the Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad de la República.

IBERAMIA’2024 is the 18th edition of the Ibero-American Conference on Artificial Intelligence, a leading symposium where the Ibero-American AI community comes together to share research results and experiences with researchers in Artificial Intelligence from all over the world. The main technical program will consist of invited talks by leading scientists in the area, presentations of technical papers, orally and as posters, as well as system demonstrations. Satellite events organized and occurring together with IBERAMIA’24 include a Doctoral and Master Consortium (SIMDIA), workshops and tutorials. Paving the way to these events a pre-conference program will take place distributed through time up to November 2024, consisting on a series of open online seminars on IberamiaChannel.

Submission Topics

IBERAMIA 2024 welcomes submissions on all AI topics, as well as cross cutting work in related areas. We encourage submissions of research that reaches across technical areas or addresses integrated capabilities, as well as application of AI techniques for social good, such as sustainability, health care, education, transportation, industry, security, manufacturing and commerce.

Paper Submission Guidelines

* Papers must be written in English, in the Springer LNCS format, and must not exceed 12 pages, including all tables, figures (https://www.springer.com/gp/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-guidelines). Submissions over twelve pages will be rejected without review.
* Papers must be submitted through the EquinOCS Conference System: (https://equinocs.springernature.com/service/IBERAMIA2024)
Authors should choose the topic or topics above that are most related to the submitted paper. All submissions will go through a double blind peer review process by Program Committee members on the basis of their originality, relevance, significance, technical soundness, quality and clarity. Thus, author names and affiliations must be omitted from the submission, using instead the unique tracking number assigned by the conference system at the time of submission. In addition, self?references in the text, like «in [14] we prove that» should be avoided, using instead references such as «in [14] has been proved that».
All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference.

Conference Registration and Attendance

At least one author is required to register for the conference and should be available to present the paper. We encourage all authors to attend if possible.

Best paper Award

A “Best Paper Award” will be given to the authors of the best paper, as judged by the Best Paper Award Selection Committee. There will also be the “Best Paper Presentation Award” selected from the audience feedback collected during the IBERAMIA 2024.
Publication
The Proceedings of IBERAMIA’2024 will be published in Springer «Advances in Artificial Intelligence», LNCS/LNAI series.

Journal Opportunities

A select set of top-rated papers will be nominated for fast track review at participating journals, including AI Communications, Progress in Artificial Intelligence, Inteligencia Artificial, and other international journals (all of them indexed by Scopus, JCR, etc.).

PhD and Master Theses Contest

The Second Ibero-American Symposium on Masters and Doctorates in Artificial Intelligence (SIMDIA’2023) will be held as a pre-conference activity on November 9-10, 2023. In this event awards will be given to the best PhD and MSc theses.

Simpósio Doutoral de Inteligência Artificial – SDIA 2013

sdia.150O SDIA 2013 – Simpósio Doutoral em Inteligência Artificial, é a quarta edição deste Evento APPIA, que se realizará como evento associado ao Encontro Português de Inteligência Artificial, a ter lugar, em 2013, em Lisboa.

Este Evento APPIA tem como motivação essencial a promoção de trabalhos de Doutoramento em Inteligência Artificial, e a integração dos estudantes de pós-graduação na área científica da Inteligência Artificial, propiciando uma maior visibilidade dos trabalhos em curso para as comunidades académica e industrial e estimulando a cooperação.

A 4ª Edição do Simpósio Doutoral, SDIA 2013, acontecerá entre os dias 9 e 12 de Setembro de 2013, em Lisboa, em conjunto com o EPIA 2013.

12ª Tertulia em Inteligencia Artificial: Descoberta de Conhecimento em Ontologias e suas Aplicações Jurídicas

No contexto das Tertúlias em Inteligência Artificial (TeIA) que a Associação Portuguesa Para a Inteligência Artificial (APPIA) promove, a Associação em conjunto com a Universidade do Minho organizam, no âmbito do Projecto HERMES: Aprendizagem e Povoamento de Ontologias a partir de Fontes Textuais (FCT/CAPES – 2010-2012), a décima segunda edição deste evento subordinada ao tema Descoberta de Conhecimento em Ontologias e suas Aplicações Jurídicas.
A 12a TeIA – DCO pretende promover a discussão em torno do tema da Descoberta de Conhecimento em Ontologias e suas aplicações jurídicas, colocando particular ênfase na contribuição que a Inteligência Artificial tem dado ou pode dar para tais desenvolvimentos, recorrendo às suas técnicas emergentes.

Esta décima segunda edição do evento conta com a participação dos seguintes interlocutores:
–    Rosario Girardi, Professora na Universidade Federal do Maranhão, Brasil;
–    Francisco Andrade, Professor da Escola de Direito, Universidade do Minho;
–    Pedro Rangel Henriques, Professor do Departamento de Informática, Escola de Engenharia, Universidade do Minho e investigador no CCTC – Centro de Ciências e Tecnologias de Computação;
–    Paulo Novais, Professor do Departamento de Informática, Escola de Engenharia, Universidade do Minho e investigador no CCTC – Centro de Ciências e Tecnologias de Computação.

A 12a TeIA – DCO realizar-se-á no dia 22 de fevereiro de 2013, com início às 18h00 no Sala CP1-305, no Campus de Gualtar, Universidade do Minho, em Braga.

ECAI 2012 em Montpellier

Decorreu em Montpelier a 20ª Conferência Europeia de Inteligência Artificial, com a participação de 17 portugueses (em 750 participantes). Os proceedings estarão brevemente disponíveis em http://www.eccai.org/ecai-proceedings.shtml.  A próxima ECAI decorrerá em Praga em 2014, e a seguinte (2016) em Haia.

Nota de reportagem (assumidamente enviezada): para além de um sentimento global de “mais uma micro-afinação do aspecto X da teoria ou tecnologia IA”, que os mais sensatos atribuem a um saudável amadurecimento da área, aqui ficam algumas notas mais intemporais:

– O keynote speech de Aaron Sloman (não está online, mas foi essencialmente um rehash de http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/~axs/ ). Para além de uma chamada de atenção para o mundo animal (cujos comportamentos mais “triviais” constituem desafios em aberto para a IA), sintetizou o status da área até ao momento: “muita engenharia, pouca ciência”; ou como escreveu http://www.cs.unc.edu/~brooks/ há já 37 anos atrás, no âmbito da “engenharia de software”: pouca atenção ao essencial, muita ao acidental… percebe-se que o dinheiro e/ou a natureza humana (?) nos arrastam a tecnicalidades mais do que ao profundo… Os jovens doutorandos que meditem neste parágrafo sff!

– ibidem de Wolfram Burgard (http://www.informatik.uni-freiburg.de/~burgard/): está por efectuar a ponte entre o numérico (nomeadamente o probabilístico) e o simbólico/cognitivo, e a robótica mostra-o, pela necessidade demonstrada de integrar ambos

Por último mas não em último…destaque-se a entrega do merecido certificado de “ECCAI Fellow” a José Júlio Alferes (via um proxy de circunstância – o yours truly); JJA é o 4º português com essa distinção (cf. http://www.eccai.org/fellow.php).

A direção da APPIA tem o prazer de anunciar que José Júlio Alferes (http://centria.di.fct.unl.pt/~jja/), associado da APPIA, Professor Catedrático do Departamento de Informática, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, e membro da direção do CENTRIA, foi recentemente nomeado ECAI fellow, após uma candidatura proposta pela APPIA e analisada pelo ECCAI Fellows Committee. Esta atribuição será formalizada durante a ECAI 2012, em Montpellier.
