Topics of research
Human-centric AI, Human-Agent Interaction, Automated Playtesting

Summary of the work
The main objective is to develop novel research on human-centric AI. The core goal is to develop models for AI systems that take into consideration social-cognitive and emotional abilities. These models will be used for human-agent interaction scenarios, such as collaborative games.
Additionally, we want to explore the usage of such AI models in autonomous agents to predict people’s behaviour when interacting with a system. This line of work aims at developing novel automation tools based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to test interactive systems, such as games and XR systems, in particular, to assess User Experience (UX). The goal is to apply advanced AI techniques to support the automation of tests of complex interactive systems. The approach is to develop autonomous agents that interact proactively with the system under test through a framework developed in the iv4XR project (https://iv4xr-project.eu/). Such agents should apply models of users to explore different interactions strategies to achieve good coverage of testing, either in terms of the possible interaction opportunities afforded by the system or in terms of the potential different user profiles.
The grantee will join a team currently working on machine learning and cognitive models of emotion and cognitive load to assess the UX of the system under test. The work involves support on the coordination of the team effort, the collaboration with the iv4XR international consortium, and the definition of an overall integrated toolkit of components to test UX.
The expected contributions on human-centric AI, in particular, for automated UX testing have a great potential of impact in the communities of AI, Human-Computer Interaction, and Software Testing.
The activity will be supervised by Rui Prada, Associate Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa and researcher at INESC-ID Lisboa. The grantee will be integrated at INESC-ID (Taguspark) in the GAIPS research group (http://gaips.inesc-id.pt/) lead by Prof. Ana Paiva.
Base Remuneration
Monthly remuneration corresponds to level 33 of the single remuneration table (TRU), which corresponds to a monthly remuneration of 2 134,73 Euros.
