The Natural Language Processing course will focus on the development of tools to process texts in natural language. While most examples and tools will be presented with emphasis to the Portuguese language, the concepts are language independent and can be applied to other languages. The main goals of the course is for the participants to understand the different tasks of processing text, to extract information and perform reasoning on it. Classes will be mainly hand-ons, using freely available tools applied to specific contexts.

Computers are improving their ability to express and recognize affect. This might be the first step for the development of emotional computers. This course intends to provide participants with an overview of how emotions are represented in the brain and how they can be perceived on data resulting from human behaviour and physiology. Emotional metrics can be extracted from text (sentiment analysis), voice, facial images and biometric data such as electroencephalogram, electrodermal activity and heart rate.

The course aims at a set of objectives such as: sensitize participants about the importance of extracting knowledge from unstructured data, especially when the data volume is very large; provide knowledge of the main data analysis techniques using statistical software; formulate and solve problems, interpret results based on statistical tools, related to: forecasting models, reducing data complexity, classifying and grouping objects or variables; understand the concept of machine learning and select the most appropriate models for each problem and develop logical and deductive reasoning; increase critical spirit, develop analytical and creative ability.

The classes will be eminently theoretical-practical, privileging the exchange of ideas and discussion of the themes. A dataset will be used to work with the different data analysis techniques.

[rede.APPIA] Call for Papers – Gamification Application and Technologies Workshop

*******************************************************************
Call for Papers – Gamification Application and Technologies Workshop
WorldCIST’21 – 9th World Conference on Information Systems and Technologies
Azores, Portugal
March,30 to April, 2
http://www.worldcist.org/index.php/64-1st-workshop-on-gamification-application-and-technologies-gat-2021
*******************************************************************

Scope
WorldCist’21 – 9th World Conference on Information Systems and Technologies, to be held in Terceira Island, Azores, Portugal, 30-31 March to 1-2 April 2021, is a global forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, results, experiences and concerns in the several perspectives of Information Systems and Technologies.

The 1st Workshop on Gamification Application and Technologies (GAT 2021) is focused on an emergent topic: gamification. Gamification can be seen as the art of engaging users on some specific goal. These goals range from a simple fuel meter that allows the driver to know his cheapest rides, to complex software tools, used to engage students in their education process or to motivate company collaborators to achieve the organization’s goals. In the last few years, gamification is being used everywhere, reinforcing user’s attitudes which, in turn, generate positive results in a specific process. Despite its apparent plethora of benefits, the unbalanced use of its main mechanics can end up in catastrophic results for a company or institution. At the same time, gamification is currently seen as the savior for all problems, but there is a lack of knowledge of what it is, leading to its unregulated and ad hoc use without any prior planning. The main goal of this workshop is to sha!
re, discuss and evaluate different approaches and issues faced in integrating games into business and education contexts, and what tools are available or being developed for supporting this methodology. This workshop will be targeted not just to the technologic support of gamification, but also on its methodologies and psychological studies. It will be valuable for practitioners, researchers, and teachers.

Topics
The main areas covered in this workshop include, but are not limited to:
– AI, ML, and Chatbots for Gamification
– Application of software-based gamification to novel areas
– Applied Gamification (in Human Resources, Marketing, Health, Education and other domains)
– Best practices for Gamification UI standardization
– Big data and gamification
– Educational Computer Games
– Game data standardization and interoperability
– Game Design Principles, mechanics, and elements
– Gamification within the industry
– New concepts and techniques in gamification design and development
– Open-source gamification tools and libraries
– Organizational issues when implementing gamification
– Player behavior modeling
– Reports on development and evaluation of innovative gamified software
– Strategies to implement Gamification in LMS

Submission and Paper Format
Submissions must be of one of two types:
-Full paper: Finished and consolidated R&D works. These papers are assigned a 10-page limit;
-Short paper: Ongoing works with relevant preliminary results open to discussion. These papers are assigned a 7-page limit.

Submitted papers must comply with the format of Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing Series (see Instructions for Authors at Springer Website or download a DOC example) be written in English, must not have been published before, not be under review for any other conference, workshop or publication and not include any information leading to the authors’ identification. Therefore, the authors’ names, affiliations, and bibliographic references should not be included in the version for evaluation by the Program Committee. This information should only be included in the camera-ready version, saved in Word or Latex format, and also in PDF format. These files must be accompanied by the Publication form filled out, in a ZIP file, and uploaded at the conference management system.

All papers will be subjected to a “double-blind review” by at least two/three members of the Program Committee of the specific workshop. The version of papers for evaluation by the Program Committee, saved in PDF format, must not include identification, e-mail, and affiliation of the authors. This information must only be available in the camera-ready version of accepted papers, saved in Word or Latex format, and also in PDF format. These files must be accompanied by the Consent to Publish form filled out, in a ZIP file, and uploaded at the conference management system.

Full and short papers accepted and registered will be published in Proceedings by Springer, will be submitted for indexation by ISI, EI-Compendex, SCOPUS, and DBLP, among others, and will be available in the SpringerLink Digital Library.
